Dark side
7/21/2013 12:12:00 pmHello,
I was web browsing when I came across this:
The dark is generous
- Its first gift is concealment: our true faces lie in the dark beneath our skins, our true hearts remain shadowed deeper still. But the greatest concealment lies not in protecting our secret truths, but in hiding us from the truths of others.
- The dark protects us from what we dare not know.
- Its second gift is comforting illusion: the ease of gentle dreams in night's embrace, the beauty that imagination brings to what would repel in day's harsh light. But the greatest of its comforts is the illusion that the dark is temporary: that every night brings a new day. Because it is the day that is temporary.
- Day is the illusion.
- Its third gift is the light itself: as days are defined by the nights that divide them, as the stars are defined by the infinite black through which they wheel, the dark embraces the light and brings it forth from the center of its own self.
- With each victory of the light, it is the dark that wins.
The dark is generous, and it is patient.
- It is the dark that seeds cruelty into justice, that drips contempt into compassion, that poisons love with grains of doubt.
- The dark can be patient, because the slightest drop of rain will cause those seeds to sprout.
- The rain will come, and the seeds will sprout, for the dark is the soil in which they grow, and it is the clouds above them and it waits behind the star that gives them light.
- The dark's patience is infinite.
- Eventually, even stars burn out.
The dark is generous, and it is patient, and it always wins.
- It always wins because it is everywhere.
- It is in the wood that burns in your hearth, and in the kettle on the fire; it is under your chair and under your table and under the sheets on your bed. Walk in the midday sun and the dark is with you, attached to the soles of your feet.
- The brightest light casts the darkest shadow.
The dark is generous, and it is patient, and it always wins—but in the heart of its strength lies weakness:
- One lone candle is enough to hold it back.
- Love is more than a candle.
- Love can ignite the stars.

Yeah, I don't know why but it really stirred my heart. I was honestly rather deeply affected by it and I can't grasp why. I guess it must be the way how it started all pessimistic and dark in the beginning, but it ended up having a twist, showing that there's always that small hope and light that is able to chase the dark away.
Then, as I was finding the meaning of it, I saw this from a forum :
It has always been my feeling that light and dark are equal brethren - undefinable without each other, unconquerable by each other, unquenchable in absolute passion.
Stars die. But in the center of each galaxy lies a blinding cradle where dark is only myth, spinning out another to replace it. And, if dark seems more prevalent, then realize that the smallest spark of light is all that is needed to force its retreat.
In truth, Dark never wins. It occupies the space it can find left empty, constantly moving from the threat of illumination. But Light never wins either; Darkness has a fluid grace, reclaiming every millimeter left unattended. It is not a battle; it is a dance.
You need to realize a third force. Amorphous, faceless, and far more dangerous. I have always called it grey. Without passion, without action, submissive and specious, it exists as the medium for these great passions. Contempt can not color compassion, while compassion burns hot - no justice tainted while ideals are true. But when left unattended, the grey subsumes it, awaiting the next change.
Darkness hides nothing from it - Light illumines none of it. Grey does not care. Your darkest thoughts and brightest ideals are beyond it; it is amoebic, moved when prodded, placid when unattended. It abides in semi-existence, ever-transitional, awaiting outside forces to determine its next destiny.
If you love the darkness, love the light; it provides the dark its substance.(Taken from http://help.com/post/189745-the-dark-is-generous#reply-4117234 )
If you love the light, love the darkness; for only in darkness can it shine.
If you love either, beware the grey; for it would lay waste to every passion.
I almost died when I read the second last line: “for only in darkness can it shine”. Woah, damn, that phrase killed me. But I have to agree, grey, is what we need to be wary of. It doesn't push us to do anything, it might be good, yet at the same time it might be the very one thing that causes our downfall.
Okay I have no idea what I'm writing so I'm just going to sign off here. Hope you guys liked them as much as I did :)
