Bangkok 2018 Part II

Check out Part i here if you have not!

My super vain cousin
Day 3 | Had brunch at SabX2 Pratunam Wanton Noodles, which is a pretty famous stall. Each bowl of wanton noodles costs 100 baht which is about SGD4. Although it wasn't bad, it was definitely over-hyped and expensive considering it's a street stall. I was thoroughly entertained how the poster with the phrase "NO BRANCH, IN SINGAPORE" bolded in red could be found all over the shop.

Right after our meal, we walked towards Platinum Mall. Coleen loves Black Canyon's coffee (located on both level 3 & 5) and grabbed a cup of it while my aunt had the espresso and I got the hot chocolate. Note: The hot chocolate was bad, please don't get it. I'm not a fan of coffee but my cousin loves their black canyon so it's worth a shot to try it if you're there, especially if you're tired after shopping and need a break.

Coleen got the bandana and the adorable store owner helped her to put it on
Headed to Big C next, which is basically a mega supermarket. Stuff like Tao Kae Noi, Lays chips and other tidbits are generally cheaper there than in Singapore but they take up a lot of luggage space. So if you already have a full luggage filled with clothes, you might want to give this a miss or maybe bring along a ziplock bag so you could empty the tidbits from their original packaging to save space. But you also risk crushing the food. 🤷

In the evening, we met up with a secondary school friend of mine who was backpacking around Asia and headed to ChangChui together. Google Maps told us it'd take about 30mins to reach there from our hotel by car but it took us more than an hour due to the traffic (it was about 7pm when we boarded the Grab). At a red light which we were stuck at for about 10 minutes, our driver just unfasted his seatbelt, took out an empty bottle and started urinating. We all went WTF mentally. God, what an experience.

Anyhoo, upon reaching the place (finally), we realised it was pretty much deserted. There was barely anyone and quite a number of the stalls look closed. It was the first time I've ever seen a market in BKK this empty. But to be fair, it was on a Monday after 8pm. On a brighter note, you can rest assured that the likelihood of getting photobombed by random strangers is almost nil, nor you need to queue for anything.

ChangChui is an eccentric place with super weird art exhibits (check out the images below). So, I'd say to venture there if you want to experience something different than the usual night markets where you'd just shop and eat street food. But you might wanna head down when there are more people for a better atmosphere and when more shops are opened.

Left: Grandmas shooting. Hide yo kids, everyone!

If I'm not mistaken, this was the entrance onto the aeroplane (yes, you could go in) but it wasn't opened when we were there.

The behind-the-scenes shots of setting up this whole market:

Opening hours for ChangChui
They have a Grab promo code right at the exit (I forgot what's the code) which gives you 50 baht off your fare.

That's all for this BKK trip. Thanks for reading! ;) xx
